Local NAPW Businesswomen Donate Dozens of Suits to Local Charity

Nearly a dozen members of the Monmouth County Chapter of the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) rummaged through their closets last weekend, and gathered more than 100 articles of clothing for local women in need.

Members of the national women's professional organization brought the gently-used business attire (and select household goods and children's clothing) to a local thrift store helping out women reentering the job market.

Second Chances is a boutique in Neptune City that specializes in selling quality new and used goods ranging from clothes to furniture, books, and accessories. All proceeds are women's coats donated to Redeem-Her, a non-profit organization based in Pt. Pleasant Beach, to help provide basic amenities such as food, water, and shelter to local women and families. The beneficiaries of Redeem-Her are predominantly recent NJ Correctional Department parolees looking to re-assimilate into the local workforce.

Second Chances thrift store was the brainchild of students in the Entrepreneurship Program at Monmouth University. The students handle every aspect from site location to research and development, finances and accounting, and marketing.

"We wanted to do something local for our community, and we all were talking during a recent meeting about needing to do 'Spring cleaning' around the house. We decided to combine these two projects and make it into a community service project for our chapter. We asked our members to take a look at their closets, and bring bags of clothing to the next meeting," says Chapter President Kat Cavallo. "Little did we know our members would come back with bags and bags of incredible, fashionable outfits!"

We would also like to recognize those members who did contribute to this exciting endeavor and they are: Kathleen "Kat" Cavallo of Med Edge, Lisa Waters of Giordano, Halleran & Ciesla, P.c., Alicia Hynes of GMAC, Judy Kushner of Everything but Flowers, Dr. Yvonne Johnson of Nikken, Lois Gilbert of Word Smith, and Alix Hayes who was kind enough to bring this great idea and press release to fruition. Thank you ladies one and all! The Monmouth Chapter of NAPW hopes to do another clothing drive amongst its membership in the near future!

Selfridges Announces Womens Designer Galleries - Art Meets Architecture in a High-Tech Fashion Environment

In February 2012, Selfridges will unveil the first phase of its transformed Womens Designer Galleries in its London store. The new Galleries are inspired by the store's neo-classical architecture. The space features an exclusive digital art gallery and next generation fitting rooms providing an elegant and contemporary backdrop for the sophisticated woman to select and personalise a high-end wardrobe.

Hidden away from the Galleries floor, high-tech fitting rooms offer the upmost privacy, serenity and natural daylight. Customers will chose from exclusive silhouettes and designer collections in an innovative and unique environment, surrounded by a constantly changing piece of digital art from British artist Daniel Brown, a pioneer in the medium who is known for his interactive installations. At the forefront of technology is the central fitting room mirror featuring three screens mounted together. The screens have built-in cameras that allow customers to capture an image or short video of themselves on each of the panels. The images can be viewed simultaneously allowing for outfits to be compared, colour decisions to be made and fit to be checked. Customers will also have the option of emailing the images for their own records, or to a friend for feedback on their choices.

"The Womens Designer Galleries at Selfridges will showcase some of fashion's most exciting designers in a creative setting that embraces the expectations of today's modern woman," says Alannah Weston, Selfridges Creative Director. "We know that our customers are sophisticated, global trend-makers and we look forward to presenting beautiful designer pieces in a serene and elegant environment."

Customer experience is a key factor in the design, but also in the development of the service offering. Bespoke texts and emails can be sent to customers based on the designer clothes they choose, their tastes and purchasing habits when new products arrive. A dedicated ready-to-wear tailor will offer customisation directly on site.

Selfridges has curated exclusive looks from the very best of British and International design houses. The Galleries will present directional collections from a hand picked selection of both new and longstanding luxury designer collections, offering customers an advanced approach to dressing, encouraging them to personalise their choices by using high fashion pieces from different designer brands in one overall look. Eight dedicated Boutiques representing Chanel, Prada, Lanvin, Céline, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Givenchy and Dries Van Noten will be given an avantgarde edge through juxtaposition with the main edit featuring Haider Ackermann, Rick Owens, Maison Martin Margiela, Comme Des Garcons, Junya Watanabe, PLAY, Sacai, Ann Demeulemeester, AF Vandervorst and Gareth Pugh.

Selfridges Director of women's clothing, Sebastian Manes says, "We have been very specific in the designers we have chosen for the Womens Designer Galleries at Selfridges. The concept for the room evolved in tandem with the selection of these designers in order to offer customers the collections they will love and a place to discover exciting looks of each season."

Designed by Jamie Fobert Architects, the room will feature 10 different types of marble combined to form an eye-catching floor. "I was greatly inspired by the story of stone – how marble has been used since the time of Trajan's Column in Ancient Rome, to Michelangelo's David and even Marble Arch in London," says architect Jamie Fobert. "Upon entering the space, customers will experience a room that is minimal, but feminine and graceful, yet strong."

In celebration of the launch, Tanya Ling has developed a series of illustrations representing the modern luxury woman that will preview the space in-store. Lady of America Explains How to Make a Workout Schedule Into an Exercise Habit

It takes six weeks to form a habit. Starting a workout schedule or fitness regimen isn't that hard, but sticking to it is. After weeks, maybe months, of enthusiasm and optimism, the commitment wanes. Life oftentimes gets in the way and excuses become the norm; fitness gets put off "until tomorrow." The problem is that once one starts putting fitness goals on the back burner, it becomes harder to move it to the front burner.

Lady of America wants to help women excuse-proof their workout schedule. Doing so will help with sticking to goals and help women become fit and healthy. "Mix it up," said Natalie Brabner, Lady of America's official fitness trainer. "Do a variety of enjoyable activities. Women's fitness clubs like Lady of America offer a number of classes in a friendly and high-energy environment. Try yoga, spinning, kickboxing, pilates and step. The goal is to experiment and have fun.

"Now that the weather is getting better, some women may want to take exercise outdoors. Try walking, running, tennis, hiking, softball. These are all great workouts for women."

Lady of America also suggests the following tips to help women make their workout schedule a habit.

  •     Get an exercise buddy. Committing to another person provides a push to keep the exercise appointment. After all, someone else is dependent on motivation and support. An exercise buddy can be a personal trainer, friend, coworker, gym buddy.
  •     Put oneself first. Women tend to put everyone and everything first and let themselves fall somewhere on the bottom of the priority list. It's time to make oneself #1 by making "me time." If one doesn't make oneself a priority, who e women's jackets lse will?
  •     Make exercise a priority. Just like putting oneself at the top of the list, exercise needs to up there, too. Make it non-negotiable with everyone — family, friends, work and oneself. Even if tired or stressed, exercise is a must. It's one's time to do something good for oneself — take advantage of it.
  •     Make it a game and set mini goals. "When goals are reached, reward oneself. Consider purchasing new workout outfits, getting a facial, or buying tickets to a concert. Make the reward anything except food related," suggested Brabner.
  •     Recognize the benefits. Exercise gives one more energy. Clothes will begin to fit differently. The number on the scale will start to go down and the risk of certain illnesses, like cancer, heart-related and more.

Ice Cream's Freshly Redesigned Website offers Personalized Yoga Clothing to Women of all Sizes

Ice cream athletics has been selling made to measure athletic apparel online to women since 2008. In an effort to improve usability and render its site more engaging, the company recently completed an extensive redesign of its e-commerce website. As a result, ice cream customers now have access to online tools which makes ordering tailor-made sports apparel easy, enjoyable and exciting.

"Our business is inspired by the old-fashion ice cream parlors of yester-years," says Kareen Massé, co-owner of ice cream athletics. "Our customers get to choose their favorite clothing style, fabric flavor, and specify how the product should women's jackets be sized. The clothing is then made to measure (locally) and shipped out to them within a couple of weeks."

The new web site guides its customers through the entire clothing selection process and highlights personalization opportunities when they exist. The user interface is clean, functional and provides detailed explanations of what users are expected to input. Another interesting feature is the site's use of full screen width and support for increased font sizes. As a result, the new ice cream website displays elegantly on a large variety of viewing devices such as Smart phones, tablets and PCs.

The company took advantage of the rewrite to also put into place many new Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques. As a result, the ice cream athletics website has seen a 30% improvement in web search ranking and has enhanced its average page load time to just under 1.8 seconds. (Google rates http://www.icecreamwear.com at 78% faster than other websites). "Our site contains plenty of rich content and includes the right balance of strategic keywords and marketing copy. We make sure to update our content frequently and have structured our pages logically using meaningful titles and descriptions." explains Philip Grunikiewicz, ice cream's IT director. "There is very little magic involved in getting better search engine rankings; it's all about using common sense and putting in the required effort".

The company consistently displays in the top 20 (in their target markets) for search queries related to their keywords. These include search combinations such as "fitness clothing for women" and "women's yoga apparel". Efforts are currently under way to promote an increase in inbound links. A move which the company is confident will lead to even better search engine results.

"Offering made to fit yoga and fitness pants, tops, shorts and tunics is definitely a niche market. But in order to satisfy customers, it's important that we be attentive to detail" adds Nancy Massé co-owner of ice cream athletics. "What better to demonstrate this, than to have a website which is detail-driven".

The company's decision to invest in the new website seems to have paid off generously. The new website not only retains customer's interest for an impressive 4 minutes (on average) but has also spiked a 12% increase in sales since going live last month. The owners are thrilled with the results and say that they will continue to invest in the website in order to meet the needs of their growing customer base.

ShopAtDiva.com Offers Giant 'Get to Know Us' Sale to Introduce New Frank Lyman Line

Frank Lyman, a Canadian designer whose fashions have global appeal, is offering patterned and colorful dresses this season, with an emphasis on feminine silhouettes and vibrant colors.

"Diva customers just go crazy for the Frank Lyman dresses," said Suzi Coombs, owner of Diva Boutique. "The prints are creative, innovative, and tastefully artistic. And the dresses transition well from the office to evening fun."

Tunics and waterfall cardigans also are popular this year.

"Women love the fit and the drape of the fabric in the Frank Lyman line," Coombs said. "Based on his experience, Frank is able to anticipate what the most flattering lines will be, with an emphasis on classic design with modern flare."

With these designs, Frank Lyman's clothes have longevity and versatility, she said. "With separates, you can add a jacket or new top with pants. It's easy to do with this line."

Customers tell Coombs they like the chic, expensive look of the Frank Lyman line.

"With tight money times, women are more conscientious about excellent quality at a good price," she said. "The quality and design of Frank Lyman fashions offer great value, at half the price of many other haute couture lines."

The "Giant Get to Know Us Sale" will give women the opportunity try out Diva Boutique's new offerings. Current customers can take advantage of the s women's coats online ale prices, too.

In addition to great prices on her new Lyman line, Coombs is offering significant reductions for Joseph Ribkoff fashions, a line she's sold for many years. "These prices are the lowest ever on the website."

Recently, Coombs closed her Diva Boutique store in Bellingham, Wash., so she could concentrate on developing her Internet business and upcoming new retail storefront in Hollywood, Florida.

"Although I enjoyed helping women personally in my Washington store make smart fashion choices, I also wanted to see what it would be like to work with a larger group of customers," Coombs said.

The results have been gratifying, she said. Diva Boutique has customers from throughout the United States, Australia, and Europe.
